PEEBLESSHIRE

Being the home county for one of Scotland's premier Salmon fishing rivers has done much to ensure that the social balance here is firmly tilted towards the rich and noble.

Once again the aristocracy in the form of Earls Roseberry and Wemyss, and the lesser nobility (quaint phrase ?) own most of the sizeable estates.

Almost 60% of the land in this county is owned by less than 40 estates.
