Sorry, but the landscape of the moon looks positively fertile by comparison with some of Caithness.

However, it did have some atraction for tree lovers. These tree lovers including Terry Wogan, Dame Shirley (Gerrymander) Porter and Alex (Hurricane) Higgins, all bought into the tax breaks associated with forestry. Thankfully, at least this part of the explouitation of Scottish land was put to a stop by the Budget of 1988.

Almost 50% of the land is in the hands of some 10 estates.
