Between September 29th and October
6th 2005, we ran a survey of Scottish Political Attitudes.
More than 400 of you were kind enough to complete it. We
put measures in place to try to ensure that nobody could
complete the survey twice. But this is the Internet and
there are a lot of clever buggers out there. However, we
are confident that this is an accurate reflection of the
views of the readers of FirstFoot.
It should be noted that FirstFoot.com
is not a party political or an agenda based Website. In
many cases, we have an attitude of "a plague on all
your houses".
However, we do think the results are
interesting. Some of the highlights are:
| |
Most respondents
thing that Jack McConnell is doing a poor job |
| |
An appreciable majority
were not impressed by the Scottish parliament building |
| |
An overwhelming majority
thought the presence of minority parties such as the
Greens and SSP adds credibility to Parliament because
it gives a voice to minority interests and a healthy
dynamic to debates |
| |
A considerable majority
thought that the oil in the North Sea was Scottish oil
and the the economic benefits of 30 years of Scottish
oil had been enjoyed primarily by the south-east of
England. |
There's lots more interesting wee
nuggets ....
We've enjoyed doing this and intend
to follow it up with a similar survey next year to see what,
if anything, has changed.
In the meantime, FirstFoot would like
to say many thanks to our good friend Alison for the excellent
results analysis and presentation.
